    EGR position sensor location?

    Alright, I am back to working on my 87 vic with the 351 vv. A while back I posted a thread about random stalling and the common answer seemed to be the EGR position sensor. I went to auto zone's website and found the sensor listed on there, however when i went to component location here is the message I got:
    On your 1987 Ford Crown Victoria 5.8L 2BL HP Windsor , the EGR Position Sensor is located:
    This vehicle is not equipped with selected component

    Anyone else smell b.s.? Why would they sell the part if it is not equipped on the car? Can anyone tell me where it is at and how hard it is to replace? Thanks in advance, i miss driving the car and wanna replace that and the starter so i can again.

    It doesn't have an EGR position sensor. My 351 VV ('90) car didn't, and I wouldn't expect yours to either.

    The valve itself is located on the intake manifold behind the carburetor. It should have a vacuum soruce, and nothing else; no position sensor. A FI car has the sensor; we are fortunate enough not to have it.

    I can't see the EGR valve causing the stalling, unless its vacuum source is wrong. If the valve opens at idle, the engine will stumble and die. You can try that by opening the valve manually with the engine idling. Push the diaphragm towards the firewall. Ckeck to see of the valve is opening at idle; that may be your issue, but I doubt it.

    Also, if the EGR valve is bad, that will more than likely not be your problem either. In my experience, the valve sticks close, which would prevent exhaust gas from passing though at all, let alone at idle. But, I suppose there is a possibility it could have failed partially open. If you operate the throttle with the engine running, you should see the valve moving. If not, chances are the valve is dead. You can also hook a piece of vacuum hose to valve vacuum nipple, and suck on it. If the valve opens, it is good. If you suck on the hose and there is no resistance, the valve is dead.

    However, I would say your issue is unrelated to EGR (although it isn't impossible). Is the engine idling rough? When is it stalling, whilst driving, or while at idle at a light, etc?

      I didnt think I was crazy, but another member on this board keep saying he replaced his and it solved his stalling issues. The last few times I was able to drive it she would idle fine at a stop then all of a sudden just like someone turned off the key she would shut off. I have also had problems getting it to start frequently and when it would shut off. Usually I will have to pump the hell out of the gas and it will finally start. I tried holding the gas to the floor to see if it would start then and nothing. Other people have said to rebuild the carb but I really dont wanna have to tear into that unless I am left with no other choice.

        Well, it very well could be the carb. Next time it stalls, check for fuel and spark; that'll help narrow down the source of the problem. You also might try adjusting the idle up a little bit, as that may be an issue if the car as stalling when you pull up to a stop.

        Back when I had the VV, I could always, and I mean always, get the car to start when I put the pedal to the floor and cranked it (if it was being stubborn at start up). The first time it didn't start for me that way, there was an ignition issue.

          yea the problem just started when i did a complete tune-up everything including plugs, wires, coil, rotor, cap, air filter, fuel filter, pcv valve, breather filter and de-smogging. I am thinking it could very well be a bad coil now that I know this magical egr sensor does not exist.

            The EGR position sensor only exists on EFI cars.

                CFI is a form of electronic fuel injection so he's still correct.
