dont waste your time bolting parts to a 270,000km shortblock......start out with a 94-97 351w shortblock....why? because it has a roller cam......not tearing your ride apart, you can drive the car while you get the block done and gather other goodies.....puttin a new top end and just bearings is just asjing for trouble if you ask me....one speck of grit can wipe out a bearing.....do it right the first time instead of cobbling some new parts together on a low compresssion tired out cop car motor with cast pistons.....you said you want to use nitrous.....should have at least hypereutectic pistons if you are going to give it laughing gas.

1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt

1st thing that should be decided is what you want for power..then decide.
if you're looking for say...220hp, a full HO conversion would be in order.
Summit makes a good version of the shorty headers...just liek the FRFF ones..but in ceramic coated, WAY cheaper....like 240bux.

E7TE heads can be picked up real cheap..check out mustang forums like corral.net...or Ebay....see if anyone in the area is selling them dirt cheap...like 50bux each and then you could have them cleaned up and ported and make some great power.

such as...it cost me a total of about 800bux to have Turbo's buddy clean up/revalve/port a set of E7TEs...money well spent!
here's how they looked after they were done...I coudl have eaten off the darn things. lol

          Step 1: Rebuild the engine.

Get back to us afterwards, there is no point in tossing anything on it until then.

There is such a beast as a HO 351W. It was little more than a sticker and a better cam with a 4V intake in the trucks. The change in the CV/GM 351W motors internally was considered a HO cam addition inthe early 80s as the cam it replaced was useless. Until the Lightning came along in 1993, the 351W was kind of pitiful. Even the 1969-1970 351W 4V motors used the same cam as a 2V 351W of the same vintage...
Ford even stuck the HO label on a 351C 4V motor in 1972. It was a low compression open combustion chamber version of the Boss 351. It performed poorly in direct comparison to the Boss.

Even recent vintage roller cam 351s in stock truck form are kind of pitiful. Not much more perk than a 302 in the same vehicle, and they suck more fuel.

if i use a block from those years doesnt that mean i will have to make it fuel injected?

Year of the motor has nothing to do with the type of induction/fuel management you have to use.

Only if you use the linkbar conversion roller lifters. They're around 500 bucks or more a set.

You'd be far better off either with a factory roller cam compatible block, or simply using a flat tappet camshaft.

You'd be better off starting with a good condition shortblock, then select a set of heads that compliments the cam and intake choice. Those will depend on what you want to do with the car.
