Find a 1996 for the GT40 heads. Some early 1997 motors were GT40 before the switch to GT40P. If you look at the ends of the heads, a GT40 head has 3 vertical bars and a GT40P has 4. On the exhaust side of the head there will also be either a GT or a GTP cast into them.

I would go with the GT40X heads. Think there like 170cc's

If you go with JY GT40p's make sure to get new valve springs. Its a good idea to have a machine shop check em out and rebuild em and throw the new springs in at the same time. That way you got a set of fresh heads and the valves wont float at 4800prm

Just a quick FYI - If you are looking for a good deal on GT40's, check out the National Lightning Owners Club www.nloc.net in the 'Gen1' parts section, they always have sets going up for sale.

Short answer.... If you can afford aluminum heads, don't bother with iron heads. You can probably find TFS TW heads for the price of GT40X heads

Having read through the entire thread here, I wonder if you have researched this idea thoroughly. I honestly don't wish to sound demeaning, but we have absolutely zero information about the current setup in the car (engine size? I think I saw something about a 351W), the mileage on the engine, how fast you want the car to be, etc. As a result, the advice being offered is jumping back and forth, as we get not even the most basic of information about the car. Hell, it may even be that the car's engine isn't worth modifying due to excessive mileage, setup (302 CFI? 351W carbed?)....there are plenty of intelligent guys who love to help here, however, I would recommend getting us as much information as you can....otherwise...

i have an 85 cv. its carbed. totally stock. im wanting to put in a 4 bbl car, intake, heads, cam, headers, exhaust, and maybe nitrous. probably some other stuff too as i get ideas. it has about 270 000 kms on it. i need to replace the main bearings, but i want to rebuild the engine eventually. i want to put gears and do some stuff to the tranny too.
