    Tranny trouble

Today my 91 GM experienced a tranny problem. It is not shifting properly. Only after the revs are high will it shift gears but really clunks into gear. The fluid is good and clean. Just had a service a few months ago. Am I looking at a major repair here or would it be just an adjustment? Thanks for your input...

Check your TV cable. If something has happened to it and it is stuck in the full throttle position then the transmission will act as though you had the gas all the way down. Just in case, the TV cable is the one cable going from the throttle body to the transmission.

      tranny trouble

I would also check the vacuum modulator on the tranny just to be safe as it controls your shifts . It's only a 20 dollar part and it is a very common problem on ford cv's and grand marquis.

The AOD trans doesn't have a vacuum modulator like the old C4 and C6 tranny has.

dont drive it till you make sure that the tv cable is hooked to the gromnet on the throttle body.......good possibility it fell off which could lead to disaster if not fixed

The tv cable did brake off and got jammed. As soon as I knew there was a problem, I parked the car at home. My friend is going to replace the tv cable for me in the next few days. I didn't have to drive very far to get home so I'm hoping there is no more unseen damage. Thanks for your help guy's. H.

replace the gromnet also......they get hard and brittle from the heat, the #1 cause of aod failure

Yes indeed, keep and eye on that TV cable forever. Check it every time you change your oil. I think it should be a much larger cable because it is soooo crucial that it doesn't fail, if it did fail, it's pissible to trash the tranny in under a mile. Hopefully you're alright man.

I did replace the grommet with a brass one a while back and the cable looked ok then but with a 14 year old box I guess you have to expect a lot of ware.
