    Usually supposed to be an internal coolant leak such as a blown head gasket. How's your oil look?

        Like stated above, it could be a head gasket, have you been going through a lot of coolant? Does it overheat? How does your oil look? If all of this stuff is okay, it may just be water in the pipes. Does it smoke al the time?

          could also be bad valve stem seals allowing oil into the combustion chamber........do you notice a big cloud of smoke when you floor it?

            head gaskets usually arent the problem. could be the lower intake gaskets need replaced, condensation buildup in the exhaust, and cold weather. need to know more specifics on if it does this all the time, only on start up, if you are going through coolant excessively, etc.

              White smoke indicates water or coolant burning. Blue smoke indicates oil.

              If it's only happening when the car's warming up then it's just condensation inside the pipes caused by a hot engine cooling down in cold weather. Every car does it in cold weather. If you're taking many short trips and the car isn't allowed to fully warm up this can begin to cause minor damage but as long as you let the thing warm up fully and regularly it'll be fine.

                I did stem seals on my former '92, the smoke looked white to me.

                too me, it's less about the color and more about the smell.....
                sweet=head gasket
                the smell of burnt oil has a smell like nothing else.

                  Or could be a simple gasket leak...we had sweet/white smoke when a gasket went out on the vic.

                    Happened to me when I used a bunch of carb cleaner in the intake. Went away after awhile. As has been said, we need more info about when it happens and what it smells like.

                          Worse case scenario could be a cracked cylinder head.

                            best case scenario would be EGR gasket went bad and coolant spewing into intake or moisture in exhaust on startups

                              True, that'd be by far the easiest to fix. Shame on me for never thinking in terms of EGR now that I don't have it anymore. :p
