OK. But I'd say it depends on the severity of the build still.

Doesn't the FE engine also have a unique bell house bolt pattern?

Tom, now you're gonna have to buy yourself a late 60s-mid70s F150 to stick this in.

The 'round bell' bellhousing, yep. There are, however, some early 460 blocks (Lincoln 460, C9 and D0) that have the FE bellhousing pattern.

I love my 390 in my 65 marauder who ever says that they can't rev doesn't have much experience with one with a good cam. Id be afraid to take my 302 as high as I take that motor. If you don't want that motor I do! Mine makes excellent torq from launch and doesn't stop pulling until close to 7000. You ever see a 6000 pound car go sideways from a launch on dry pavement?

maybe because its an FE motor, either a 390 or a 352? Could just possibly be why it does not look like a 460.

Absolutely NO 429/460 has the FE bolt pattern. You have the Lincoln 462 (even those aren't C9 or D0 though) confused with the 460.... By 1969, the 385 series was the only Lincoln option. C9 and D0 460 blocks are all the standard 385/335(most 351M & all 400) series bolt pattern.....

The only Ford motor which ever got a Q-Jet is the 1970-1971 429CJ/PI. Ford released its own spreadbore in 1971.

Of course the engine will physically rev..... The issue is reliability.. The oiling system is exceptionally poor on the FE. You may be able to get away with a stock oiling system on a relatively mild 390 build, but step up the stroke and the shortcomings come through... The 427 and the 390 have the same stroke.... The 427 has a huge bore in comparison... The 427 needed a different block with an improved oiling system to live at high RPMS reliably...
