    tranny help needed badly!!!!!!!!

hey guys i need help!!! a while ago i posted that i had gotten my 84 vickey back from a guy that put in a motor for me(5.0L) when i got her back the tranny didn't shift.at all. i asked for help and everyone pointed me to the tv rod adjustment. i did it, and now she shifts but she shifts like horidly higher than it should and i need help.i've been working two jobs and haven't had time to post or work on it. i've had to barrow my mothers car to get everywhere. i have this weekend off and i can work on this car. i've played withe the screw adjustment at the top and the closest that i can get is it to shift out of first at 28-30 mph second at right at 50mph and i can't even get it to shift into OD.I NEED YOUR HELLLLLP!!!!!!! is there a way to adjust this better? where would i get the pressure tester?is there a way to switch this bad boy to the cable easily?(don't know how to do tranny's much, motors yes, tranny's no)i really need your help. this is my daily and i'm driving a barrowed car that i'm wearing out the welcome on.please some one be my life saver.

Any tranny shop should be able to test the pressure, but it's definitly high. There is a return spring pulling the TV lever back into position, is yours there?

This pic is from my carb'd car, but yours should be similar.

yep the spring is still there. any idea which way i would move the slide block on the tranny side to lower the tv pressure? all of the shops around me tell me that the rod has nothing to do with the shift points and the want to replace the govenor. they want to charge me out the a** to change it. even though they all say they can have it done in around 30 minutes. i looked up what it takes to replace it and they would have to be pretty fast to get it done that fast. every one that i've tolded to says they're trying to scr*w me, and that they'd probably just do me the adjustments and charge me for the swap. so i've been trying to avoid most of them.

So there is an adjustment down at the tranny? I was thinking there might be, but I couldn't remember for sure. Adjust it whichever way is the opposite of the way it goes when you press the gas and you should be okay. Just don't take out too much pressure.

If the governer was the issue, light throttle situations shouldn't be any different from a normal transmission.

Funny, so happens I just took pictures of the TV rod linkage that came out of my new car. According to this picture, there seems to be a set screw on the lever on the side of the tranny; loosening this and sliding the lever "up" the rod (rod down through the lever) ought to provide the adjustment you're needing. It'll probably take at least a couple of tries to get it where you want it; I'd probably move it maybe 1/2" on the first adjustment and then go from there.

yes, there is a clevis bolt adjustment at the trans which does most of the adjusting. the screw up top is for fine tuning.
