That's the thing though. The coolant and the radiator is as clean as it can be. Also I flushed the radiator back in the fall and it was clean then as well.

If the radiator was clogged I would expect the bottom hose to collapse, or else the pressure on the top hose increase with engine speed but that isn't the case either.

I am not going to say there isn't something partially clogging up the works. If there is, it has to be in the block, and it lets go mighty quick above idle.

Does anyone understand why I have been scratching my head now?

Well, Ill tell you this. I never had any overheating problems. But I did pop a water pump gasket due to a blockage. The rear water crossover in the lower intake was packed solid from head to head. May wanna check that.

Maybe just bump the idle up a bit at a time till you get the good flow. A small increase in idle will only use a bit more fuel and will increase water flow and oil pressure.

        Problem solved..

there is no rear crossover in an EFI car. Its just a dead-head pocket in each side with a pipe plug or a small fitting where the EGR cooler return line hooks up.

I guess there is always the option of a high volume water pump.

My '82 gets hot in summer traffic, probably due to the same issue. It idles really low, though. The impeller just isn't turning fast enough push the coolent around.

Put a fitting in the other side passenger side and Teed them togeather into the EGR. I will also restate the water pump impeller cavity will only fill half full unless you intalll a bleeder valve or vacuum fill the system. If you dont believe me look at an old backing plate you will see the water mark left by it only half filling. The will also be pitting of the plate it is due to the impeller cavitating causing the water to boil and eat at the cover.

                  Hmmm very interesting.

Where should I drill to install a bleeder?

Don't think you need to drill anything, pretty sure the threaded hole is already there, just covered with a solid plug - pull that one out, thread the new nipple in, run hoses like Dave suggested, call it good.

For the cross over in the rear yes ... for the water pump it has to be drilled

it looks to me that the bypass hose fitting is right about even with the bleeder valve. That should take care of purging any remaining air out of the pump. Failing that, once you start it, the air should churn up with the water and be forced through the bypass hose and heater core fittings and eventually get out to the radiator so it will burp itself.
