I did 14's on cleaned up heads, stock HO cam, and a stock untouched ho intake and 60mm TB. What's behind the motor is as important or more important to a good 1/4 mile time.
Isn't the Edelbrock Performer 5.0 EFI reversible too? It certainly looks it. The Trick Flow StreetBurner looks it too, and I hope so because that's what I was looking at getting. I know a guy who had one in his Town Car but I don't remember if it was flipped or not.

Well, the typhoon is a chinese Edelbrock knockoff, so prolly... I haven't looked at new intakes for a few years.

Yeah, I swore the Typhoon was a cheap Performer 5.0 EFI knockoff. I wonder if there's any major differences in the two... From the pictures I found of both the Performer EFI 5.0 and the Twisted Flow StreetBurner they both look reversible, or very nearly so.

Are any of these intake being talked about included lower intake manifolds (I assume these are EFI intakes)? Would it be cheaper to port a lopo/HO lower intake or get a Cobra/GT40?

LOL, yes the intakes come as upper an lower.

A cobra will not easily work. It's got a built in EGR ... GT40's are EXPENSIVE as hell. Explorers are the most reasonable priced and fit well.

A good porting on a stock HO/lopo lower and ho upper would work well if it's done right and it's matched with the rest of the engine.

Ok, in case I interpreted the post wrong, an Explorer upper/lower intakes are gonna be the best bang for the buck?

Most replacement intakes are complete upper and lower. Not much point in replacing just the upper, since the lower is the restriction. Most also use a different bolt pattern and port shape between the upper/lower compared to stock.

Price on porting the stock lower vs a gt40, well that depends. Its probably on average a bit cheaper to have a lower ported but there are gt40 type intakes for cheap sometimes. Explorers are the cheapest of the bunch, and flow only marginally less than the much more expensive gt40 tubular.

Also, no one has mentioned the "power elbow" plenums that bolt onto an EFI-conversion-capable carb'd intake like the Victor Jr. Thoughts on that?
The SSI: It has a series of problems that have cropped up, such as fuel rails mismatched for injector port placement, fuel leaks, and the two I now have experience with whistle through the IAC like a sonovabitch when they are idling....therefore, they are out in my book.

Power elbows? These are best for single-plane, short-runner intake manifolds.....3000 rpm and up.

Box intakes? Once again, they are short-runner setups best suited for turbo, supercharged, or high-rpm applications.

Personally, if it's going to be a 5.0 street motor, going in front of an automatic, it's going to be Edelbrock (any of the performer intakes), Trick flow, or ported GT40 for me.

My T-bird is going to get a GT40-style intake one of these days, with a ported lower, when I can get around to buying a particular one from a friend...
