    High fuel consumption

Ok, the Merc is relly starting to suck the gas down, more then it normaly does, i went 15 mins out of town with it and it used over 1/4 tank, when before it might only use half that. i just filled it up tuesday nite and the low fule light is alredy on, and i havent even driven that much, any tips on what to do to get my MPG back up,
Here is a list of everything i have done..
    New cap and rotor,
    New plug wires
    New spark plugs
    New fuel filter.
It has just started this and also sometimes when idleing it starts to stumble and when i go to pull away feels like its only running on a few cylinders then clears up, like its flooding itself out, but it only does this once and a while

sounds like sticky choke or internal carb leakage. Leaky needle/seat assembly will do this. Carb rebuild probably is a good idea. Its fairly simple and the kit should be pretty cheap.

How does a leaky needle-and-seat cause excessive fuel consumption? Does it allow the level in the float bowl to get too high and force too much fuel through the main jets?

i did advance the timing not long ago, would this have any affect on this, or would it make the mpg better?

i may also try to adjust the needles, drivers side is fuel and pass side needle is air, correct? i have a rebuilt Holley 2 bbl, but id dosent have the right attachments for the TV rod, and throttle cable, seeing as it was off my 59 Edsel, i know its rebuilt seeing as how i rebuilt it myself. unless i can get adapeter parts for the throttle and TV rod??

the rebuild kit retail will run you about90-100bux for the 2150, thats why i ditched the one from the lincoln and got a replacement holley for a 100bux at the swap meet. the jets on the bottom are for each venturi, you can set them at the starting adustment and go from there tuning each on, one at a time. if you are extreemly careful, and i mean extreemly, tou can take the top air horn off the carb and see if the bowl is dirty...but still say get the kit and rebuild lol

Interesting. What's in the $90 2150 rebuild kit that wasn't in the $16 GPSorenson kit I bought once?
