    PCV screen removal....

    Question:

How do you change the PCV screen? I bought one to change mine out, and was told you have to take the intake off of the car to change it... I was under the impression that you remove the PCV valve, the grommet, and then pull it out... (Another words, the PCV grommet sort of holds it in place...) The mechanic was telling me that you have to remove the intake, and it is underneath the intake... Since I have never had one changed, or changed one out myself, I wasn't sure... I want to get this changed, as I know it has never been changed... (At least I haven't changed it, And I doubt the Sheriff's Office has done it...) And the PCV valve we changed the other day was so plugged up, you could not blow thru it.. AT ALL.... So I know the screen is probably pretty plugged up as well...

    Tom...

if you have a long pair of needle nose, you can pull the PCV valve and lean/ lay on the engine and stick the needle nose in and pull it out.

Just use a long screw, screw it into the screen and pull it out. I used a 4 in lag screw, worked just fine.

if you have reason to pull the intake, its easier with it off, but not required. Just very hard to see with everything in place. The screw method worked for me too when I did mine the first time. Might also want to replace the grommet, usually they turn to rock with age.

i couldnt do mine without removing the upper intake but it came out easily after that. i was replaceing the valve cove gaskets anyway so it was no big deal.the problem i have now it the new grommet is too loose for my liking. the PCV valve slides in and out too easy as well as the grommet sliding in and out of the intake. is this normal?

im not really sure mine seems to be the same way though except the pcv valve is snug.. i've been meaning to go get a new grommet but i havent got around to it..

I do know mine doesnt like to sit flush either, it sticks up about a centimeter to high and despite being tapped on and pushed down it doesnt lock into place. Im guessing its just dried up dunno

the new ones don't seem to fit real well. I've had some luck winding a couple turns of electrical tape around the pcv valve and stuffing it in the grommet. Snugs it up decently.
