    engine swap

is it possible to put a 385 series (429 or 460) engine into an 85 crown vic?

    Anything is possible....

It's been done a few times. One of the guys on crownvic.net did it. There was also one on ebay a year or two ago.

Isn't GMGT planning a big-block swap? What's he doing for headers?

Yep GMGT is doing it, I'm doing it, I think 460 Panther is still doing it.

how much work would be involved for just fitting the engine in there?

It takes modifying the motor mounts, you need the correct oil pan ( rear sump or fox swap oil pan ), you'll also need to swap out the transmission for a big block transmission.

Plus all the little stuff, exhuast, cooling system, accessory drive, etc.

There's plenty of room, but you might need to do a little clearancing around the wiper motor bracket.

Speaking of which, I'm periodically caught pondering the fact that a great many other cars don't have the wiper motor and linkage assembly right there in the way like that. Wonder what could be done to relocate it on a street-driven vehicle?

I'm looking into an aftermarket street rod wiper set up. It uses a worm drive cable with a remote mounted motor assembly. The kit is not cheap but it elimnates the clearance issue. I'm going to be running one in my 54 F100. And eventually it may go into the big block Panther project.

You can but a well built 351W could get the job done too

                          Nope.

I saw a 500 caddy build in Hot Rod last month...

500+ hp, and 650 ft*lb (IIRC). Thats what I need. I'm not really that focused on the hp, although I'd still like plenty.
