    lower intake question

I have 2 intakes here, one has only a small plate under the pcv valve and one from a 94 mustang has a plate covering the entire lower half of the intake.

what is this for? and could it be one of the reasons im getting small amounts of oil through my pcv into my upper intake? i used the other one.

you got it. the larger plate is for better oil control. keeps it from sucking oil through the pcv as badly.

damnit! guess i know what im doing this spring.

i've never even seen a lower intake like that before and couldnt find much about it. I'll let you guys know if it cures my oil in upper intake, which i've read is pretty common on HO's.

my last motor did this but it had blowby problems. also had the small plate on both the ho and explorer intake. it wasnt enough to smoke, but the intake runners were definitely very well lubricated. not sure if it still sucks oil, don't honestly care. it doesn't consume it, it doesn't smoke, and if its getting a bit of film inside the intake, well its good upper cylinder lube. definitely not going to take it apart to modify the intake.

I actually realized this newer 94-95 intake doesnt have a boss for act sensor, so im not even gonna bother with it.

so yea just for future information.. these intakes need to be drilled and tapped for act.

i think the later models placed the IAT sensor in the air box, so that makes sense. Never looked at one honestly. I know the Explorer does not have a drilled hole for it either.
