They can also build you the h-pipe. I also really like how clean it looks when a shop does it.

How's the process of deciding between a set of mufflers going?
Wait... what? You don't have to fabricate anything for duals on Panthers... at least I've never heard of needing it. The manifolds and downpipe/cats are the same regardless of duals or singles. The only thing you might have to fabricate is a hanger for the left muffler and left tailpipe... and that's only if you didn't want to make due with some kind of hanger from the parts store like I did.

after deciding to go dual, i found a couple year old thread in the 5.0/5.8 tech titled full exhaust .

this thread is so good it should be a sticky.

my only question is still mufflers. i actually used to like the old glasspack sound. would they sound similiar on my car?

Yes there is a stock H pipe that will bolt on then all you need is another muffler and tailpipe

the single strait pipe I removed was louder and sounded better than the twin generic turbo mufflers.

cant ask for a better picture than that!

and with the 2" pipes anybody think the glasspacks may work?
          ..or just sound sick?

That picture does look sweet Pete.

I'm more of a fan of chambered mufflers with high-flow (or no) catalytic converters. These cars have pretty damn restrictive exhaust systems, and four cats muffle the exhaust note down quite a bit. If you liked glasspacks on an older muscle car, this won't sound quite the same. It'll be a lot quieter and won't have as defined notes to it - the burbles will kind of blend together.

That being said, I have Dynomax glass-packed mufflers and while they sound much better than stock, I am aching to get some high flow cats and a couple nice chambered mufflers.

Sweet pic Pete, this makes things more clear for me as well, lol. I guess it's been too long since I've seen one of these with single on it still, lol. I think I forgot how the y-pipe worked on our cars, lol.

I had glasspacks on mine when I had the cats on it, and it wasn't that loud. Just a little raspy grumble to it. It turned out to be a pretty nice tone for the car. Sounded pretty healthy! Nothing that would wake the neighbors or anything either, lol.

                  Decide for yourself:

hearing all this exhaust talk makes me wanna just remove the exhaust from muffler back. have one car here with no muffler and catalytic converters intact. i like the growl it has that way.

If you want it louder but not too loud, gut one set of cats like the front or back two. You'll still have two more, it'll be louder but not too lud and still toned. So, if I understand correctly, your setup is stock manifolds and downpipes, stock cats, tow package/police 2" H-pipe and glasspacks and dumps or tails. Sounds like a good setup for a stock motor.

is there a way to fit the old cherrybomb glasspacks on my exhaust?

i know with stock-bent pipes , i need a muffler with offset inlet and centered outlet and didnt know if they had something that works without any modification.
                        Thanks, killer thread!

Any Panther '79-'85 will have two instead of four, as well as police models for all years.

Glasspacks have both ends off-centered now, the ends angle out on them for the most part.

You can get 'em up at AutoZone too, the ones sold there have the ends angled on them.

Here's a link to mine back in the day. I had my cats removed, duals with glasspacks, shorty headers, and 3.5" echo chambers at the rear.

Maybe this will help give you something to aim for in the future if you decide to do more to the exhaust and use glasspacks, lol.

Also, the four-cat setup is only on factory-installed cats. Stock replacement cats replace the four with two.
