The '80 is Not starting again

When i first got the car it wouldent start, it tried to fire but wouldent. But then it mysteriuosly started. and it started every time after that. well yesterday i drove it to the end of my drive way to get some pictures, well when i was going to back it up, it started, but stalled when i put it in gear, and after that it has gone back to not starting, just trying to fire, just tryed it again this morn, and still the same. its got fule, spark, i tryed it with the choke open, still the same, i tryed holding the peadal to the floor while cranking, i have changed the duraspark box, but still nothing, seems she only wants to run when it feels like it...
    Any ideas?

Is it jumping timing maybe? We had a ambulance that used to do that.. finnally they figured out that the pin that holds the gear on the distributor on had sheared, and was "catching" once and a while, would start and run for a while, then back fire and die, or sometimes just die... took them a while at Ford to find the problem... You may want to check that, and other signs of jumping timing... (loose timing chain, etc) Also check all of your wiriing... Ford is bad about plugs becoming brittle from heat and age and coming apart... causing shorts , and open circuits

Another possibility--from what you say, it sounds like the engine is pretty tired...do you know what compression looks like on each cylinder? Entirely possible that the rings are shot and it just isn't making enough compression to start in cold weather.

sounds like the same problem with my buddies 82 stang. when we brought it home i did some adjustments so it would stay running and it was running real good and would fire up every time, then one morning it kinda sputtered then wouldent fire after that. its gots a load of spark and lots of fuel.

My car (351 VV) doesn't have an EGR sensor, that I know of. Theres just the EGR valve at the back of the carb.

Probably the carb if it has always needed to be pumped like that to start...
