Going home this weekend to play with cars. My dad confirmed that the kickdown lever on the 4100's normally do just float (they don't move as soon as the throttle does), just as Mercracer thought. I'm see if it's possible to adjust it so it does move with the throttle.

In the meantime, I bought just Holley on eBay from a '85 F250 351W. It has the auto lever on there and appears to have about two inches of adjustment on it. I'll keep ya'll posted on how that works out.

Speaking of which, Mike, how do you have the kickdown rod hooked up to the 1406? Mine is just loose now, I manually downshift but with a sloppy linkage tis quite the PITA.

Edelbrock has a Ford kickdown linkage to bolt on the carb.....

Ah, an add-on... well I looked at Edelbrock's website, it says their kickdown brackets are for cable-operated throttle, which is what I have now anyways. Here's what they have pictured, is it what I'm looking for?

Yep, that looks very much like the part. Remind me to get a decent pic of mine, assuming I don't have one in the galleries of Squire pics. You'll have to offset the throttle bracket a couple inches further outboard, but it works very well. I actually have a bit of metal bolted to the end of my kickdown rod to make it adjustable (it was too short for reasonably fast automatic kickdown engagement).

I have no cable brackets like you do, my truck normally uses a rod linkage for the throttle too, but I have a cable in its place now cause the carb had no stud for the rod to snap onto, so the kickdown bracket can go in as is and all will still be fine.

Hm, you lost me ... oh well, I'll get to see it in person one of these days. I think we know you well enough to figure that your setup probably works.

I have decided once we get to hooking up the throttle cable and kick down... I am going to have a friend of mine put it on his flatbed wrecker and take it over to the transmission shop that did my 91's trans.. and get him to set it up and adjust it... since he does alot of custom work for the local hot rod and racing people... Thay way I KNOW it was done right...

I'll get a Lokar set up, and if he can get the stock linkage to work right, I'll just return the Lokar... otherwise, we will have both ways to set it up without waiting for parts... hopefully...
