Duraspark or TFI? On Duraspark it's pretty easy, just pry off the star-shaped doodad with a pair of big screwdrivers and remove two screws.

his car looks to be a 88+ box by tails in his sig so i am guessing it has a 5.0 since he did an upgrade with police shocks.

In that case, it would be the TFI distributor. I don't know how to do those, but I've got a couple I can use to find out.

you have to pull the shaft out to change the pick up coil on TFI distributor. in order to that, you have to get the roll pin out then remove the distributor drive gear. this can be rather difficult on a 20 year distributor. usually either the shaft gets bent from beating on the roll pin or the drive gear gets boogered up from pulling on it with a puller.

In my opinion, you'll be better off finding a good used distributor our buy a reman from a parts store. this will save you lots of time, frustration, cursing and busted knuckles.

Did you troubleshoot power to your coil and module? Pickups rarely fail.

My year is a 91- 5.0. The coil is year old so I don't know. To be frank I don't know how you would test the coil any why. O'reileys said they could not. I might just replace the whole thing they have em for $60 bucks..Don

Coils are also supposed to be pretty reliable in the long term - all they really are is a transformer. TFI modules, on the other hand, are supposed to be only marginally more reliable than generic-brand replacement Duraspark modules (see lincolnmania's thread with pics of a dissected TFI module - thing wasn't even really sealed).

Have you thrown a multimeter on your wires? Factory suppression wires have pretty high resistance, maybe 1000 Ohms/foot, but if they get crispy they can get to the point where they just don't conduct the spark current reliably.

Does any one know the omhms on a coil or if that will work??

Probably varies, but if you want one of us can take some readings.

Let's see.... on my ACCEL coil I have essentially no resistance on the primary side and about 8500 Ohms on the secondary side (post to the ground terminal) .... a parts-store coil I have (GPSorensen brand, I think) has nothing on the primary side and about 7200 secondary .... both these coils function, so if that check means anything, you should be fine.

coils are real simple to check. Unplug it from the car. Connect the + side of the coil to the battery + post. + on the ignition coil is whichever side the white/light blue wire hooks to. Take another wire and connect it to the - side of the coil, do not hook this to anything just yet. Stick an old spark plug or a spark tester in the end of the coil wire, and position it so its grounded, and you can see the spark gap. Tap the lead from the - side of the coil on the battery -, then pull the wire off. If it sparks, the coil is good.

To check for power at the coil, turn the key on, and see if you have 12 volts from the white/light blue to ground. You should have zero volts from the red/light blue to ground.
