Incidentally, this would be a good time to swap to a grooved tensioner pulley if you can find one; I want to say MeLikeyStripperChicks or someone said one could be gotten from a Cougar, but I could be totally wrong.

The Cougar tensioner is only needed if running smog pump with no A/C, when you remove the smog BS but retain the A/C the stock tensioner is just fine.

Huh. 'Cause I definitely remember running the grooved side of a belt over my smooth tensioner pulley back before I removed the A/C.

You had the tensioner on the wrong side of the belt - it should go on the outside, so the smooth back of the belt rolls on the tensioner.

I have the grooves on the tensioner to run just the smog pump on the 85. So far so good.

Oh, it does work either way, tis just easier on the belt when flat meets flat.

I know it has been asked many times before, but I will ask again, What is the belt number that you use after the pump is gone? My AC works so I need the belt to run it too.

yeah, bound to get more belt life out of it the correct way.
I was actually expecting mine to squeal or make ruckus but so far so good.

Mine actually squeals, even tho tis run the correct way - beats me why, I just get used to it.
