    Max HP

I was wondering, on a non-HO 5.0L, how much street-able horse power could the bottom end handle?

as much as the HO and i would think 500hp is pushing it.

Yeah....BUT how would you manage to pump up the horse power to them levels?....And its torque that kills engines BTW, Thats why a small 4banger can put out 400+ hp and not blow up.

well what could be the max? maybe 300HP, 300ft/lb. one reason 4bangers can make so much power. smaller/lighter pistons + higher revs = more power per cu.in. but one thing in my opinion 4bangers dont have, BRUTE FORCE!!! thats why I cant switch from american Muscle to jap junk.

well, what happens with a 302 with too much power is the block splits in half. they were only designed to deal with so much. a lot of it also has to do with the tune, the quality of the build, and the particular block. Some take more, some take less.

The blocks are good for 600HP+ but no tolerance for detonation at that level.... You hear of many blocks breaking at that level because of detonation...

Anyone that breaks a block at 500HP messed up bad...

Let's get more real world builds above 350HP before we worry about breaking blocks at actual high HP levels.....

300HP/300 ft lbs isn't hardy worth mentioning if you are getting serious. All that it takes to go over that is an Explorer motor with a cam change...

That is what I am trying to find out, without going explorer motor, or touching the bottom end. I bet there is someone out there that would like to know. me, I am going 351W with a carb.

Your bottom end will fail because you have an old engine before it will fail from too much horsepower. The facory rod bolts suck, so you can't turn it 7000RPMS and expect it to live.
