GM HEI does have a module, but its inside the distributor itself. Only thing you hook up is power and wire to a tach if you want it. It might not be the absolute cat's ass for super high power motors, but on something thats close to stock, it works just fine.

Not sure about just using a T in the line. It might work but there's no way to regulate pressure. A return style regulator would be a better option instead of the tee, or even a dead-head regulator between the tee and the carb to ensure your fuel pressure is not too high.

5-7 is about right, depends on the specific carb you're using. some want a little less. that info will be in the manual for the carb.

Which Offy are you using? I tried a divided single-plane on my car and it really didn't work that well, even with a 1" four-hole carb spacer. Part of it is that my stock GT40 heads just don't flow that much. I swapped on a Performer 289 and it's making more power across the board, especially on a motor that has to operate below 2 grand (lockup torque converter) and never sees the high side of 5500rpm.

Edelbrock carbs like to see 5-6psi, which with my stock replacement mechanical pump requires no regulator. Seems I've read that some Holley applications may like to see 7 or even 8 - check the manufacturer's recommendations for your particular model.

Is it the one with wide-open plenum with a divider down the middle, or the Dual Port with dividers in the middle of each outlet? The former is what I tried, looks basically kind of like a Victor Jr. but with a wall in the middle. Frustratingly, the swap-meet guy I bought it from claimed it'd perform more like a Performer than a Performer RPM ... WRONG!

Anyway, the Dual Port is supposed to be fantastic for low end ... I wish I'd been able to find one for my other motor that has to deal with even lower RPMs. Then there's the Port-O-Sonic, a wide-open single plane, but I doubt you're talking about that one. The two I mentioned to start with are both marked "360 degree" and not much else, you have to look at the plenum/passages to ID them.

Have you decided what cam and heads you're using?

quite similar indeed. something could in fact be the bee's knees, the cat's ass, and the dog's bollocks all at the same time, but only if it were truly a fine thing.
