    AOD Rebuild

I am not sure what the summer will bring for me, but for now, I plan on rebuilding an AOD for my ma's CV. I was going to buy a TCI or B&M unit, but I figure that I will have time during the summer to rebuild the tranny myself. Other then a few attempts at changing trans fluid a couple of times (really messy in my driveway), I don't know a whole lot about rebuilding AODs. Can anybody recommend a good source(a book, video, or internet atricle)?

Just pay Brian to build you one. That tranny can be a pain in the ass.

There is a Ford Automatic Transmission Overhaul book....I've got one, it's OK. My self-rebuilt AOD lasted for 500ft....

There is also TONS of info on the web on them. There are a bunch of links in the archive with tips and info.

I love doing things on my car when I can, but I never want to bother with my AOD. I'd definitely consider their advice and look into Brian. I had mine done in 05 at place where my brother used to work. I think I may have talked to Brian on the phone to get some rebuild advice if I remember correctly. Mine was a simple rebuild with a Transgo shift kit, upgraded servo, and Kevlar bands.

Hi, first post, new member here.

I just acquired a 1991 CVPI with a shot AOD (surprise!). I'm looking for information on the AOD and came across this...who is Brian and where is he located? Link to other information on the site? Thanks for your help.

Who knew a giant barge that handles as good as my Mustang would be so much fun?

Problem #1 with doing your own AOD rebuild?

Seal installation with the clutch-basket pistons. I was going to buy a seal-installer kit to work on all of the clutch baskets....however, the cheapest I could find was $270 on Ebay...used. In addition, any AOD with any miles on it needs to have the races and sleeves knocked out and replaced, and that kit was around $200....no thanks, not since I am farming my tranny work out to someone else, who already has everything needed.

It looks as though I might look into having the tranny built by Brian. That is way into the future though. On a related note; what is the drive ratio of OD (or fourth if you prefer) on the AODs?

0.67 for standard AOD, and I believe 0.70 for a wide ratio.

As you can see I don't know a whole lot about these trannys, or any tranny for that matter. What would happen if you put a beefed up roller 351W in front of a stock AOD? I don't mean getting on it WOT, but babying it while you break the engine in and get another performance AOD. Will the AOD last until break-in is over?
