Today I bought a case of Mobil-1 for the first time. Just gotta decide now whether to just get a Purolator or similar filter or call up a shop I know that peddles Amsoil products. I must have bigger clearances than some folks, because my engine really hasn't been entirely happy on the 5W30 Motorcraft synthetic blend.2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

BTW, what grade Mobil-1 did you buy? My car is happy as a clam on 10W30, but I'd imagine I don't have a ton of wear, I've been running synthetic of some kind in it since it had about 30k on it...now at 142k.Originally posted by gadget73There is nothing more permanent than a temporary fix.

I got 10W30 also ... this engine is about two years old, but hey, it's noisy enough anyway, so I'll give it what it wants!
I assume I'd be looking at about $15 for a filter from Amsoil? Do they have different filters available like their different varieties of oils?
Edit: Website's showing $18.10 for the EaO, $6.55 for the WIX, and $11.95 for the WIX Racing. I notice Mobil-1 filters are supposed to be good as well for apparently around $10 each .... don't remember offhand who sells them, though.Last edited by 1987cp; 05-23-2008, 12:41 AM.2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

EaO Filters
Supertech 10W30 Full synthetic
Oil changes every 6.5k
That's what I run in the box, and that's what I run in the highspeed suppository (1998 dodge grand caravan, 3.8 liter, 235k, uses no oil between 6.5k changes) my dad and I have run that recipe though it since it was new.Originally posted by gadget73There is nothing more permanent than a temporary fix.

I have recently switched to using Valvoline MaxLife 10w40 with a K&N oil filter in the Deuce. I run Castrol GTX High Mileage 5w30 with a Mobil1 filter in the Beretta.
I also run Castrol GTX 5w30 with a Bosch filter in the lady's Civic.
Castrol and Valvoline are the way to go. No Pennzoil, no Quaker State, no off brand. The cheapest filter I will use on any vehicle is the Bosch Premium oil filter. No STP, no Fram, no off brand.
Look inside of the different filters and compare the build too. Never buy STP, because most of the filters I have seen have nothing holding back the filter on it, except maybe a plastic liner. Same thing with the SuperTech filters. When you look in them, you can see the WHOLE filter element. And Fram, VERY thin cheaply made filtering element. It's known for falling apart over time.

OK, just put in 5 quarts of Mobil-1 10W30 and a Carquest oil filter. The car seems to really like it so far - very smooth and quiet as this car goes.
What sort of oil change intervals do you mangs observe with the mid-priced full-synth oils? The Mobil-1 is pricey for my tastes, but appears to be less than half the price of Amsoil .... I just hate to change it twice a year like with dino juice if it's not needed.
The Carquest filter is supposed to be made by Wix, which is good ... but to be more certain I talked to a guy at a NAPA that said it sold Amsoil products also. He told me the NAPA Gold is identical to the "real" Wix filter and the Silver is a different design made for them by Wix, and additionally that the last Amsoil filter he got in appeared to be identical to the Wix filters he already stocks, so now he just recommends NAPA Golds to anyone wanting a really good filter and only bugs Amsoil for their oils. I don't know if the Carquest filter I have is the same or not, but I'm thinking next time I'll just buy a NAPA Gold and call it good!2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

napaonline.com is showing $5.69 each for the NAPA Gold 1515. Amsoil.com wants $6.55 for a Wix 51515 and $18.10 for the Amsoil EAO15. Does seem like a big price difference if they're actually the same .....2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

I wouldnt get the wix racing filter for a stock car, I have 2 of them in the garage, but I dont even really want to run them on my race car.
It says right on the box that they come in not intended for street use. I think the main problem with the wix racing filter is that it is a full flow filter and that it doesnt filter as well as a wix gold......
thats my .02
But if any one is interested in them, i will send 2 of them out for $25 shipped.....
