    1. Because according to what I've read, the filter matters more than the oil. Look up the New York City taxicab tests amsoil did. They put their low-flow bypass filter on along with their regular high-flow filter on some NYC taxicabs, and didn't change the oil for 60,000 miles. Then they disassembled the engines, and the engines had almost zero wear inside.

    2. Because it's fucking expensive. $6.50 a quart sucks ass, especially when I can get Supertech full synthetic for $13.00 for a 5-quart jug.

    3. Supertech and Amsoil filters haven't let me or my family down yet. My dad has a '98 Dodge Caravan that he bought new with the 3.8 pushrod v-6. After 10k miles, we started running this combo. I do oil changes every 6k on that car, and it now has 235k on it. The car starts first try no matter how long it's been sitting, and it uses no oil between changes. Pretty damn good, considering a lot of those vans start blowing smoke at 130k.

Well, I'm impressed by those reports! I've heard for quite some time about Chrysler minivans' reputation for blowing blue smoke. Heck, from time to time I see aero Vics with nice bodies blowing blue smoke, and Caprices too. I do like the price of Supertech, and it seems to be an OK product. Where do you get your Amsoil filters? I assume they're a direct replacement for the PH8A/FL1A?

John Deere Plus 50 15W40. I either use an FL-1A (yes, you can get them to work on a 351 car), the NAPA equivalent of an FL-1A, an FL300, or a cheap NAPA equivalent.

My Dad buys the oil by the pail, and we use it in everything, from his trucks to our lawn mowers. We have some really high mileage stuff, and find it to be an excellent product.

I order them from Amsoil's website. Filter is # EAO15 (letter O, not zero) for my 91 MGM.
Yes, is a direct replacement. Filter is $18.10, but well worth it IMHO.

FL1A fits fine on a 351, its the ones with the oil cooler that have clearance issues with them. Usually those get an FL300.

Walmart synthetic and Motorcraft oil filters in the car. Walmart conventional and Delco filters on the S10. I ask for RotellaT and Purolator filters for the boat, I end up with whatever Fram filter does not fit and the wrong grade of oil consistently. I run it anyway, its only had one engine seize up in the last 6 years.

Found some blurbs on Super-Tech oil on many, many eye numbing :drug: sites and forums. These companies are the ones that keep coming up consistently.

"Super-Tech is manufactured by Warren Performance Packaging (Omaha, NE), ExxonMobil and Shell. There is no difference between Castrol, Mobil, Valvoline, Pennzoil or SuperTech. If the product is an API SM/GF-4 rated Motor Oil it’s the same."

"Pennzoil/Quaker state is owned by Shell, these are the best selling oils there are... Wal-Mart’s oil is made (and it depends on your region) by Exxon/Mobil (containers look like they'res) or warren (has a wpp on the bottle) or Shell....
all good oils, not as good as they're name brand counterpart (little less additives) but a good oil none the less."

Then there is the Rotella T (Shell) at Sam's in quantity, but I can't remember if it offers any savings over the Super-Tech.

I remember using a Bosch filter once. I'm sure it did a great job filtering my oil, but it collapsed when I tried to remove it and I ended up stabbing it with a screwdriver in order to have a way to turn it.

Any thoughts on the K&N Premium Performance filters?

....hence the need for a really good filter. I use Wix filters locally, and the Motorcraft FLHP 1 when I can get them.
