I've just recently started using Mobil Driveclean, in an attempt to see if it does actually... "clean". Sadly, though, I let the car get a little hot one day and I'm afraid that probably sludged up some of the oil. But I've heard good things about it, plus it's cheap.

We've run Mobil 1 in all our vehicles for a long time, but recently we've been using the Supertech stuff; I put it in my CV at the last oil change. Seems good so far, and it sure costs a lot less than the Mobil.

OK well some of you know I do work at a quick lube shop & that I have worked there for over 11 years now.
I have come to find that people who know whats going on with their car & know how to take care of it use.......Valvoline / Castrol & Mobil. But I have heard a rumor that I do not know if it is true. If you run regular oil for most of the vehicles life then switch to synthetic you COULD mess up the engine.
Personally i use Valvoline Max life 10 w 30 With a bottle of Lucas & a Fram 8A filter.
Quaker State & Pennzoil Both have the 1st & 2nd highest concetration of wax respectivly. Needless to say wax is a BAD thing. I never use either one I strictly am a Valvoilne guy.
But then again you can do whatever you wantsigpic

Somewhere on the Internets is a gigantic 200+ PDF document rating each grade of every oil out there according to several different ways of measuring the effectiveness of oil. It also rates the oil and air filters, and there's a little blurb about how the filters are way more important than the oil. As such, I run the Supertech full synthetic, but I run Amsoil filters (both air and oil).
Amsoil consistently received the highest grades on all of their products, with Mobil1 right behind it.
As far as the Supertech oil is concerned, it's made by several different companies, depending on where in the country it's being sold. It all meets the same specs, though.Originally posted by gadget73There is nothing more permanent than a temporary fix.

Amsoil filters, eh? Why those and not their oil? torquelover has a buddy who last I heard was an Amsoil distributor ... I probably ought to try it someday because of its great reputation, but the price would take a lot of getting used to!
Weird about the wax in Quaker State and Pennzoil, since I had thought they were pretty good oils, and I would readily believe it's not the best thing to have in your engine. Haven't run either in my engines lately, though my wife's car currently has Pennzoil full synthetic in the crankcase. P72ford was talking about the benefits of diesel performance oil such as Rotella or John Deere for vehicles with flat-tappet valvetrains, and I recently noticed gallon bottles of Rotunda 5W40 full synthetic while checking out a nearby Tractor Supply Company store. Right now I've got Motorcraft 5W30 synthetic blend in the Mercury, which it hasn't seemed quite happy with (seemed to run a bit rougher compared to 10W30 conventional oil), and I want to say my other engine had Valvoline 10W30 conventional in it when it was parked.2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

My car had plain 10w30 (no special brands Autopride, Napa, Castrol, ect) for most of its life and in 2000-2001 (65-70k mi) I started doing the oil changes. At first I kept using the cheaper stuff because of the oil leaks, and advice that switching to synthetic was a bad idea on an old car. I heard somewhere to phase it in so I used Castrol Syntech blend for 5 or so changes and then went to Mobil One (always 10w30). I found no issues with changing to synthetic and the car just hit 80k mi not long ago. The past 2-3 years I've been doing the 1 Qt. Lucas with the Mobil One. Not sure if it's necessary, harmful, a waste or what but I don't think any harm would come from the Lucas. I've been using using FL-1A's or Purolator's (heard they were similar or the same) if need be for quite some time now based on what I've learned here (NO FRAM GARBAGE).
My Oil Change Recipe:
1. Mobil One 10w30
2. 1 Quart Lucas
3. Motorcraft FL-1A
4. One STP Fuel Injector Treatment
5. Regular Chassis LubeLast edited by 86GmLsCoupe; 03-17-2008, 12:44 AM.sigpic
