    Lifter and Timing set questions

Alrighty, I am pretty much set for my HO conversion, I have the heads (gonna rebuild them) explorer cam, ho upper and tb (already on the car), HO computer and 19# injectors. So I just need gaskets and a timing gear set. What is the best brand to go with or where should I get one as I might as well do the timing chain while I have the cam out.

Also what about the lifters, do I need new or can I reuse them? The car only has 103K on it and I barely drive it but when I do I beat the hell out of it cause it is my toy so it needs to hold up to alot of WOT.

    Thanks guys.

usually you can re-use roller lifters. Have a look at them to see if the roller itself is worn looking, and if the sides of the lifters look like they've got grooves in them. Generally though, if they aren't physically worn looking and you don't have problems with them ticking, they're fine.

the cloyes true roller sets are good, and SA double rollers are nice. Actually the Cloyes ones are usually SA. I've got one on my car, and its holding up OK in spite of having fallen off the camshaft and been re-installed.

I used cloyes it was good, lifters should be no problem as stated, i had 160,000 and they look damn near brand new.

Whatever timing chain set you get make sure it's a double roller chain. Cloyes is fine, I've used plenty of those. You can probably reuse the lifters, as Gadget said, check them for wear. I used my original set in the 87, and that thing had almost 200K when I swapped the cam, and it was fine.

The double roller has two sets of chains, with two sprockets:

              Here's a single:

Most likely. The preload came out ok on my motor with an Explorer cam, E7 heads and Cobra rockers. Double check when you assemble yours though.
