    Anyone figure this one out.

I took these pics a while back when I got my Towncar. I noticed this mess while I was under the hood one day. The plastic tube that goes from the oil filler neck to the top of the throttle body has been messed with, and the previous owner ran plugged up the fitting on the TB and ran the tube over to beside the brake booster, then its T'd into another line, and, I just dunno. Anyone got any opinions on why this was done or what the previous owner was thinking. The car was almost exclusively maintained by a dealership.

looks to me like they diverted oil getting into the tb by making oil go somewhere else its not supposed to.. other than that i dont see it serving any other specific purpose.

      who knows

It kills the cruise control. That's a one way diaphragm on there. When you press the brake the brake booster uses the vacuum and at that point the cruise has higher vacuum so it gets transfered over to the brake booster and cruise dies. The cruise module is also suppose to shut the cruise off directly, so that junction in theory is just a backup.

The cruise still works though. I had this car on the highway a few times and used it then.

Why the heck would the oil neck get tied into the cruise and or manifold vacuum... I want to know where the red stripe hose is going

All that will do is pull an extreme vacuum in the crankcase if its connected to the valve cover like I think you're describing it to be. The way the PCV system is supposed to work, vacuum is pulled through the valve at the back of the intake. Its supposed to take in fresh air from the throttle body through that tube to the valve cover. The way it is now, you've got vacuum at the pcv valve, and full manifold vacuum at the valve cover. The PCV valve acts as a crude regulator, its not supposed to deliver full manifold vacuum to the crancase. Its going to suck air from somewhere, so any blowby, or any leaky gaskets will pull air. If you move that back to where it belongs, don't be too surprised if you see some new oil leaks. Should also get a smidge more fuel economy since it won't be leaking vacuum.
