    factory 302 cams

i had some down time at work one day and decided to look at factory cams from a few 302s and got these specs and prices from sealed power.

    1990 bronco - 183 int, 192 exh @ .050" lift, 108 lobe separation $75.00

    1990 mustang - 210 int, 210 exh @ .050" lift, 115 lobe separation $306.00

    1997 explorer - 186 int, 197 exh @ .050" lift, 115 lobe separation $220.00

so if im doing this on a budget and i dont want to go to the junk yard for a cam id go with the bronco cam.

the big thing is im wondering how big of a difference there is in these cams? especially between the bronco cam and the explorer cam? also i was wondering if the bronco cam is better then a lopo cam and how much better if it is? any help and/or information is appritiated.

Uh, bronco cam will NOT be a roller cam. That's why it's so cheap.

So, if you are building a non roller cam motor- the bronco is what you are gonna want.

hmmmm. at work it said they were all roller cams. eh oh well. to me the difference in the ams didnt seem that big except for the mustang cam but the explorer one probably has more torque in it

A 95 sure as hell isn't a 90.... IIRC it was 94-95 that was the change in trucks to a roller. However lightnings did not get a roller cam.

I have GOT to get that FAQ done!!!!

ALL truck 302 and 351W motors with the exception of the Lightning used the same roller cam from 1994 on.
The truck 302 got the CV/GM roller cam a couple of years earlier (1992).

yea i work for advance auto parts. ok, so not all the 90+ truck 302's were hydraulic roller cams then? hmmm, so i guess id have to see if they came with hydraulic rollers before i could actually say i can use the cam?

yea a faqs page with all the parts that can be used on the 302s and 351s would be nice to have

ha! i love how the info i got at work on some parts are wrong. uness when it said "hyd" it only meant it was a hydraulic cam and not hydraulic roller?

probably. They're all hydraulic cams. Don't know when the last time Ford made a solid lifter V8 for passenger vehicle use, but I bet its been a fair number of years. Hydraulic just refers to the lifter type. It can be roller or flat tappet, but its still got the spring and is oil filled. Solid lifters are just that, solid. You get the fun of valve lash adjustments as part of standard maintainence. They're used for high power stuff mostly, no cam lift loss in the lifter since it doesn't compress.
