    "bad" to run 5w30???

I just put synthetic blend 5-30 in the 91 figuring its wintertime and maybe it would help free up the "morning lifter" it has...

I may be being paranoid but I want to say I hear valvetrain sounds now... kinda sounds like a quiet diesel...

Im thinking about draining the front plug and adding some Lucas...

I always run 5W30 in mine, year-round. Holds about 40 pounds of oil pressure going down the road at highway speeds, and it hasn't exploded yet.

MIne was quiet with a Autometer Ultralite gauge reading 0 at idle...

However, old 5.0's are a bit loose and 5W-30 is a tad thin for them if you want it to be quiet

Next oil change go back to 10w30. As long as its got oil pressure you're not hurting anything but old motors make noise with thin oil.

dont worry about it.. mines been doing it for years and still runs stronger than ever. I wouldnt run 5w30 though, I know it wont hurt anything but it wont help the noise factor thats for sure.

If 5w30 makes your engine noisy, that is a clue that your engine is worn..... If you can hear that noise in the passenger compartments, you really have problems.....

So would, say, a freshly rebuilt engine be able to use 5W30?

Most definitely. I drag race my 302 with 5w30. At 6000RPMs, you don't need heavy oil. Lighter oil provides less resistance.....

well, the morning lifter wasnt any quieter this morning... the noise Im being paranoid about you cant hear inside the car, and you barely can under the hood... maybe its all in my head.
The motor is only supposed to have @ 40K or so on it btw, I forget exactly what the mileage was on the recipt....

Run Motorcraft or another 5w30 blend but change it often for the first few changes. Miles will loosen up stuff in a motor which has sat for an extended period.....

I ran 0w30 Mobil 1 in the Vic. When it was my DD for 2 years, it would sit in the middle of a huge lot off Lake Michigan for 15 hours at a time, in winter. It made a considerable difference on startup compared to 5w30 dino oil. On some of the worst days, snow would work through the door seals due to the wind off the lake. Only place this ever happened.

How cold was it getting? I've started mine when it's probably 10 or 20 below with 5W30 in it. Cranks over a little slow, but it always always always always starts!
