When re-installing the power steering pulley on a new pump, does it matter how far down you put it on the shaft? My other one wasn't touching all the way, you could see rust where there was a gap.

It should be the same to maintain belt alignment. -
I had problems tearing up the belt by not having my pulley aligned with the others.

The front of the pump shaft shoul be flush with the pulley.
