    3G alternator swap (opinions needed)

I'm running a big 1g battery cable off the alternator to a 200A fuse, then to the battery. I've run into a conundrum, however. I'm looking for opinions here.

-- I could run it nearly along the cowl around the engine to the fender apron, where it'd plug into the fuse. That'd require nearly 11ft of battery cable, which would prove difficult to find because I'd like to avoid having to cut my own and I haven't found anyone who sells any besides PA-performance, and they're kind of a ripoff IMO.

-- I could run it over the engine, between the intake, disty, A/C compressor, etc. over to the fender apron into the fuse. This is what I'd prefer to do, but I'm hesitant because I don't know how much heat it'd take to damage these cables.

Those who have done this before, what did you end up doing?

i ran osme big thick car audio cables across the front of the engine bay under the thermostat housing and over to the alt. Just put some split loom around it and it shuld be ok. I used a circuit breaker form the parts store instead of having to worry about a place that sells the special fuse if mine happens to blow in the middle of nowhere

you can go to a place that sells boat supplies, they should have battery cable there. thats where i got my 0 guage.

you could also use welding cable

Mine runs under the AC compressor and over to the breaker on the fender. Didn't want to spring for a big expensive chunk of cable to run it like the factory wiring up behind the header panel.

I ran my cable like gadget did on my old 87'. I used smaller cable (4-6 gauge) and a lower rated fuse too. I'd rather have the smaller fuse blow than something more expensive go up in smoke.
