Hm, single roller timing set. Kinda like doubles myself, but for some reason everyplace hands out those singles by default.
The water pump impeller shouldn't matter, you get a choice of heavy duty or non-hd. sometimes they'll ask iron or aluminum. The HD pumps have 2 small bolts on them, they have 1/2" heads on them and are in closer to the snout compared to the rest of the bolts. None of the brackets hook to them. I'm not 100% sure but I believe the timing covers are the same. You should be able to put an HD pump on a car that didn't come with one. Anyone else know for sure? My car had an HD from the factory since its a tow package car.

hehe, aye, you would think someone that worked in the parts dept. would know the difrence between a double roller and a single roller. Unlike the client who may/maynot have ever even seen one.
I know this. If someone asked me for a lined vault i woldent give them a reg concrete vault Oi!.
Anyways. What type of time frame are we talking about here to put all this stuff on hehe. I got air, and a impact wrench. And the harmonic balancer puller.
Im thinking it's just pull off and put on hehe, But i might be wrong thinking it sholdent take longer then 6 hours.

6 is probably right if you've done one before, but figure on some extra time just in case. I'd also suggest breaking the water pump bolts loose by hand just to be safe. They've been known to break before.

Looks like the exact same balancer I have on the Mercury. Don't be scared if you find it just slides all the way onto the crank snout without an interference fit; I spent about 3 days tearing out my hair trying to figure out why the thing wasn't going on any further with the balancer installer that I'd had to use on my old stock balancer. Super fun part for me was reinstalling the water pump pulley after carelessly getting paint in the hole - if I remember right, that thing's held on by interference and nothing else.
I was able to get a double-roller timing chain at Autozone just by asking for one. Can't remember now, but I may have had to have them check a couple of different applications like different year 5.0 Mustangs. It's a three-keyway, and cost me about $25. I think they're supposed to be more durable than the regular timing set, though I've got a standard set in my other motor and it doesn't seem to be causing any issues that I know of.

water pump pulley bolts on, but it is a tight fit. I used the die grinder on my pulley to very lightly grind off the burrs and paint and crap around the hole, pops right on there now. A sand roll probably would have been the ideal tool, or a round hand file, but I used what was easily accessible at the time.
single rollers work, doubles last longer. They don't stretch as much over time. Just that single roller they hand out looks dinky. If you ever get to look at a stock Explorer set, its single roller but quite a bit wider and looks generally more sturdy. The generic replacement ones look like bike chains or something.

Interesting, seems like the old set from my Explorer engine looked a lot like the replacement I put on my Grand Marquis motor, which in turn looks a lot like the one DK has. I probably still have it around somewhere ....
