thanks for looking up the intakes for me but i've already got one. i just had to look for one that idendicaly mached mine. i didn't realize that they had so many different throtle body types in our cars. i thaought that they only used them for like a year or two. but i found five differnt styles in the yard and the cars were all '83 or '84.

Looks like that thing didn't get regular oil changes. There is supposed to be a drainback hole in the bottom of that tin cover so oil won't collect in there. Least the later EFI intakes have one. If the CFI ones do not, I'd consider drilling one.

actually my grandmother(original owner) had the oil changed every three months, even when it didn't need it.it's an '84 and when i got it last year it only had about 60,XXX miles on her. since then i've kept up on the oil changes.before i got it it was her back-up car and sat most of the time. to give you an idea when she past and i inherited the car, the plates expired 4 years prior.

My guess is that your grandmother never wound the engine up enough to blow out the carbon buildup.

I give mine an "Italian tuneup" on a regular basis.

Probably short runs where the engine never got hot then. Thats another good way to carbon up a motor.
