    meh alternator

i was driving today and noticed my turn signals were way slow, then like 10 mins later my lights were dim and the engine seemed to be idleing lower. i was tryin to make it to a parking lot but it died at the stoplight. i put it in neutral and had to push it in reverse to get outta the road. for some reason it spilled trans fluid on the header, which i noticed burning off when i jumped it. i let it run w/o being hooked up to another car and it died after like 5 mins, so im hoping it is just the alternator. but im wonder why it spit out tranny fluid when i pushed it. i think it came out of the small hole in the center of the cap. what do you think?

Are you saying that fluid spewed out of your tranny dipstick tube?

My alternator stopped working one night. It has done it before, but only for short breaks (like 10minutes). The voltage went way down, then the dash light came on. I turned off the headlights and continued to drive (it was dusk), and was able to get the car home, (I turned the lights on here and there). I'd guess maybe the alternator is a wee bit more important on an EFI car?

its an 89. and yeh it looked like it came from the small hole in the center of the top of trans fluid dipstick. it wasnt overfilled btw. im just wondering why fluid spit out, just from pushing backwards it in neutral with the engine not running? i did have to crank the wheel kinda hard to get outta the way. meh just more proof that i suck at not breaking things.

Pull your alternator and get a reman.... Have it tested by the librarians at the parts store before you give it up...

do you mean it spewed power steering fluid onto the manifold? that's a normal thing, they spew if you steer em without the engine running........check for charging......prob a dead altenator
