If you want to remove the Thermactor system entirely, you'll want to cut off the air injection tube where it connects to the exhaust under the car and cap it off. Then get the tube off the back of the cylinder heads and plug the holes with short 5/8-11 bolts (or find a creative way to cap them off). Then it's pretty much a matter of disconnecting any annoying hoses that run between the steel tubing and the pump, and probably also cap off the vacuum line that goes to the diverter valve thingey that hides somewhere behind/under where the A/C compressor is (or if you're like me, used to be).
Not that I need much motivation to remove superfluous systems from a car, but is your air injection system malfunctioning somehow?2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

Except that the information about de-smogging EFI cars doesn't really apply to carbed versions. Desmogging a carbed car is MUCH simpler. All you do is rip everything out and plug off the vacuum lines.

If you know someone, you can get it through even without the smog pump. I have emissions down here and mine passes fine without all that stuff. My EGR valve is present and working but none of the rest of it exists.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

It'll run fine without it, yes, but does it need to be there in order for you to pass emissions inspections?

ditch it then. Just plug off the vacuum lines associated with it. Should be 2 small ones to the diverter valves and one large one that comes off the cruise control servo. Cap off the pipe to the back of the head and the one down to the cats if its still in place.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

where the vacuum lines are in a big mess on the passenger fenderwell, there is a connection with all vacuum lines. i disconnected that harness of vacuum lines and plugged the red line that feeds into the connection. i cut the vacuum line by the cruise servo and put a bolt in it. doing it that way eliminated all my vacuum lines that went to the smog pump and the EGR setup. all i had to do after that was cut the lines to the exhaustand pinch them shut and pulled the pipe from back of cylinder heads. i cut the pieces that bolt to the cylinder heads and moved driver side to passenger side and mounted it backwards so it blocked the hole in back of cylinder head and movved passenger side piece to driver cylinder head and bolted it up to plug that side.
