Does anybody have a suggestion for a hotter cam? Some specs to look for?

What's on the shelf of my garage right now:

        Ford 351W Street Performer Camshaft
        Part Number: 229-2077
        Manufacturer: Clevite 77

Clevite Class II Street Performer camshaft for Ford 351W. Operating range 2000-4000 RPM with a fair idle. Excellent mid-range power. Cam specs as follows:

        Lift 472/496
        Adv. duration 280/290
        Duration @.050" 214/224
        Lobe sep. 107/117
It is somewhere between my Edelbrock Performer and the Edelbrock Performer RPM cam. If you've the money, try to go roller and get a more modern grind.

Here's one I just noticed while poking around tonight. Looks like maybe 240hp and upwards of 400 lb-ft with 351ci and E7 heads on the virtual dyno. It just might be perfect for my 2.26-geared Squire:

This one looks okay (less peak torque but flatter curve), and can actually rev above 5 grand:

Anyone happen to have a copy of desktop dyno I could try out so I ca play around with some combinations?

I have been limiting myself to cams that make power from no higher than 1500 on up to save some low end power. Bad idea?

Good idea. Heavy car. The 268H Comp Cams grind will do what you want it to with the GT40 heads. A set of 1.7 roller rockers will give you the boost in lift that you can use. I wouldn't go any larger duration with your car and intended combo.

Indeed. Now if he were offset griding it, when aftermarket parts are READILY available for much less effort/price...

Matt with my 357 that was in my mustang i had a 512/512 cam. It also had TFS heads with 1.6 rockers....O sweeet and fast.
Since your not going to crazy i would look at a 480 lift cam. This way you can get a 2000rpm stall and be fine. Looks like your on the right track though

Im makin ny 351w a 393 stroker heres whatcha need fer that...

                      1-4" crank-Summit Racing it is like $780
                      2-6.2 Rods
3-have to get a machine shop to bore the block to accomadate the 4" crank as it is only like a 3.80-ish" stroke...

and add a torque cam something to the tune of 216D Intake/224D Exhaust@.500 and you should be just fine

Lunati Cams are good, cheap deals that come with rocker arms, roller/non-roller your choice..for like $189.90 something...

The duration is what changes the RPM range. Not so much with the lift. I ran the 268H in a 289 and didn't like it. I prefered my bone stock 78 fairmont 302. Loads more low end torque. The stock 3.08's were part of the issue.

                          a 408 uses a 4" stroke. a 393 uses 351W rods, 302 pistons and a 3.83" crank.

                          396" crank $450

I decided against a stroker because of the added cost of performance cylinder heads on top of everything else I would need to buy & upgrade. 357 Cubes will do just fine for now.
