    BIG PROBLEM!

Was driving to school this morning. Car drove relatively fine for 3/4 of the way...after about 30 mins the following stuff happens:

From a red light or dead stop I can accelerate only while barely pushing the gas pedal...this takes me a very long time to reach any significant speed.

When I attempt to give it some gas i notice the car hesitates and will not accelerate, the engine goes no faster, it feels like its gonna die. I can hear the transmission shift from first to second to third gear and no matter which gear its in, no matter if its OD or D, when I give it gas the car hesitates and won't go. I have to work up to speed very very slowly. Sometimes the car actually responds and speeds up as I am backing off the accelerator.

This doesn't sound like a trans problem, and it came on mid drive. I am thinking either an injector went out, a sensor went bad (especially the TPS), or I have a fuel delivery problem. Could also be a vacuum leak but what would get vacuum only in Drive and not in Park? Idles smooth as glass. The tank is 3/4 full.

Also when in park I can rev the engine and there is no hesitation or problem...although recently there has been a metal on metal sound. Not like pistons or anything important like a loose thin metal plate vibrating somewhere. It rattles as i let off the gas pedal and seems to be affected by rpms. Nope there is no catalytic heat shields and the exhaust manifold heat riser plates are both gone. Noise is coming from the engine bay.

I am about to give up on this POS car...it has been nothing but problems recently. Someone, anyone please give some insight here. Its pouring out and i have no garage so I haven't explored anything yet.

Check the TPS sensor and the vacuum line for your MAP, assuming you have one on your car. metal on metal sound... where at in the engine bay? front, rear, or what? Could be the dust cover on the lower half of the trans bellhousing is lose and vibrating, or a lot of other things.

also how does the car run when the engine is cold? does it run out of power when it gets hot?

ok i revved the engine in park in the parking lot at work...cut off cold. sounds like it has to be vacuum leak or tps.

Ok it ended up being the TSP dumped on me.

I tested the voltage and got 1.024V at base.

When i started moving the throttle arm thru the range it moved slowly up till 1.8V and then stopped giving a reading on the DMM.

This explains why a little bit of throttle was ok but too much would make the car hesitate and stall.

Now here is the bad news...cost me $53 bux to buy a new one...and it had to be special ordered. Not a single parts house in the area had one in stock. I paid for Express delivery $17, so I could have it ASAP to get me up and running again....I hate this car.
