i have been having issues with my car. it is a 1987 CV with a SEFI 302 for those that dont know. i cant tell if it is a burned valve, or a messed up injector. all i know is when the car is sitting in park, and i barely touch the gas pedal, it acts like it is missing then levels out repetitively. i have checked for vacuum leaks and checked the plugs. my only guesses right now is that there is a valve that is acting up or burned and or a injector that is screwed up. i hae yet to do a compression test. i have also checked to make sure the plug wires are properly seated. i am getting tired of these little issues. i would appreciate any help from somebody since i cant seem to figure this problem out.

Gadget swapped that at SF...i cant remember if he checked it...would that cause it to act like a dead cylinder then it idle fine and just go dead to good ??? if you understand what i am sayin....it acts like it has a dead cylinder...then it idles fine...and just does this over and over. i hate pulling into traffic and not knowing if it is gonna pull the stunt of the misfire when i pull out in traffic.

But do you remember what I said about the TPS? That when I got my new one, the computer would act as if it was still running with a bad TPS. It would throw the TPS code and everything. So had to get the car warm, so that meant somebody had to keep their foot on the gas just enough to have the car stay running. When it was getting warm, thee shop teacher plugged in the TPS again, it took over the idle and it was steady.Last edited by 86VickyLX; 08-09-2007, 03:23 PM.

the cylinder balance test came out even, so most likely the engine itself and the injectors are fine. It wasn't setting a TPS code any more, and it metered out OK. The code 41/system lean code kept on though. Either its got a vacuum leak somewhere thats major enough to throw it off (doubt it, the motor had good vacuum), the injectors are really clogged (doubt it, balance test should have indicated something), or maybe its a bad O2 sensor. Could also be a problem with the smog controls. Cap off the pipe from the back of the heads, its possible its sucking air in through that and causing the funny O2 reading.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

cap, rotor are new...i am gonna try different wires on it to see if it helps. all the plugs look are ok. it is to the point that it stalls out from how bad the mis is. it is a definate dead cylinder type feel to it. acts like one wire isnt delivering or one cylinder is outright dead at idle and light throttle(including hwy speed) let me try new wires and see what happens. if that dont fix it...i think i am gonna have to be in the market for a car.

ok... i called up oreilly since i never really go any place else. i asked them when i bought my plug wires and they said 1 year and 1 day. the wires i buy are lifetime warranty from there. i swapped out the plugs from Deuce and drove there. it was an improvement by just putting used wires on. i have an extra set of brandy new plugs still in package i am gonna install also. Baby jumps and drives better with no real issues compared to the problems before. i think one of the plugs in the car has a crack since it still has a miss but not as bad as before. thought i would update on this.
while i was at O'Reilly's i priced out the BLUE FORD RACING WIRES, they run at $60 plus tax. i am also gonna be getting a MSD Coil and Cap for Deuce when he gets his new heart transplant. Deuce will be all out performance and be a fun car.
