Too big is bad because of efficiency. The meter will not read correctly. The air is moving too slow through it.
You CAN NOT stick a 9" 3rd member into your 8.8 housing. The 8.8" housing is of an integral carrier design. The 3rd member is the carrier. A 3rd member is for a removable carrier design axle. The FRPP brake kit includes all of the hardware to mount read disc brakes onto an axle with the correct housing ends. Mustangs and CV 8.8 housings do not have the correct ends. This is why you could have your ends cut off and 9" ends welded on. This will eliminate your C-clips (axle retaining device) and allow you to use the Explorer brakes or any of the several aftermarket brakes if you so wish to.
You don't convert a Vic to leaf springs, you weld the brackets for a Vic onto a 9" housing of the proper width. The best thing is to buy a new housing with axle ends, axles and bearings from Strange or Moser with the brakcets in place for a Vic.

My 80mm Mark VIII meter works just fine. And it cost a whopping NOTHING. I did spend $15 for a spare though. Just having a calibrated meter doesn't mean the car will run right. It still will require a bunch of tuning.

The 9" will just require custom brackets to work with the panther 4 link. It's been done. Not really required unless you are doing some insane stuff with the car and have 500+hp. Which an NA 331 ain't gonna do.

      Leaf springs... LMAO

        80 isn't bad compared to 90

LOL I think you guys were missing that I was rejoicing that no leaf spring mumbo jumbo would have to take place with my car if I switched to a 9", as I clearly don't have any hanging out back there. Where are the brake kits available from? I read something about 90 Town Car rearends bolting in and having an ok rear disc setup, is that bs or whats your take?

There are a pile of vendors for aftermarket or FRPP for Explorer type retrofit.
My take and advice on the whole thing is to stay 8.8" and keep your drums for a while to same money and keep it simple.

You can use 92+ panther parts for the rear disc swap...
