Hi, Grandma and Grandpa's 87 4 door is turning Pro-Stock. I need to find an 8.8 Traction Lock rear-end and I've found one in the past factory installed in a Country Squire. Do any of you know if these rear-ends can be found in police interceptor models and which years of the country squire I can snag one out of? I am also looking for specifications and directions for the rear wheel disc brake conversion. Thanks for your help guys! Nick-WI

I don't know much about the rear disc conversion, but I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of taking off the old parts and swapping the new stuff (backing plates, rotors, calipers and parking brake). If I remember correctly, the parking brake cable attaches differently, so you'll have to come up with something for that.

Any tow package car can have a trak-loc. It's the same trak-loc as in a mustang and explorer. The disc swap is a simple task, with the expeption of the parking brakes. Remove and replace.

Well, I picked up my 331 from illinois a few days ago and I found a very nice used TCI streetfighter AOD, so I'm just looking to get that trac-lok set up. I've found a 28 spline trac-lok carrier and a set of strange axles, but I cant get over the fact that the rearend housing is so damn lightweight for my application. I'm really thinking about a 9" third member... Anyone running a 9" in their box?

Are you doing a carb conversion or are you putting the serious money into your EFI ignition and fuel system with a performance intake, etc?

LMAO I'm truly sorry to hear that. Well, I've found a 28 spline track-lok carrier for my 8.8 rebuilt for $125.00, and Strange makes 28 and 31 spline axles for the 8.8's. Where do I find a 31 spline carrier for my 8.8 though? I haven't seen one in my search. I have a port matched off road GT-40 lower from Ford racing and a 93 cobra GT-40 upper with Vortech fuel rails and 30lb injectors. EVERYBODY with a mass air car should invest in a Professional Mass Air Systems mass air meter. Their 90mm unit is the best meter out there because you can't run out of voltage on any N/A engine.

90MM!!
Someone has been drinking WAY too much Mountain Dew!! Moderation grasshopper......
Everyone who makes a 28 spline diff for the 8.8 makes a 31 sline diff. If you are going to need Strange axles, then you need to get rid of the C-clips. You would have someone lop off your housing ends and weld on a set of new 9" ends available from Strange or Moser, then get your 31 spline axles to match. While you are doing that you can get a diff bearing cap and rear cover support kit. You can then get a set of Wilwood disc brakes or use the FRPP Explorer rear disc kit if you must have rear disc.

Well you have to ask why not go with a larger meter as long as its calibrated to your injectors and cold air inlets? If I build a 351 or heaven forbid a triton V-10 etc. etc. in the future its a good investment considering theyre cheap to recalibrate and you only take in as much air as you can fit through that piping. PMAS says it's pretty hard to peg the unit with a supercharger/ turbo, so I shouldnt have any problem with a measly 800 cfm max intake charge. I figured by the time I beefed my 8.8 and got it back in the car I could buy a nodular 9" and stick the bastard in there with my gear ratio and axles. That would be a breeze without having to mount leafs and weld shackles on straight. When you mention the FRPP explorer "kit", is there an adapter kit for these rear ends, or do you mean piecing the necessary components off the explorer 8.8 rear end?
