Upgrade it. The alternator cost me $15 used with the harness, splice one wire and add the battery cable. Cable cost $6 and a fuse was another $15. You can have it done in a day working slowly.

For cable if you have a welding shop near by go there and get some 4 gauge - 1/0 AWG cable for your new battery cable. Make sure you upgrade the ground on the battery too, and ground from block to chassis to the same size cable or larger.

Stock wiring is too thin for 3G alternator in my opinion. Or you can go online if you can wait and order all the cable you need and a fuse holder along w/ a fuse.
        Cable/Cable Lugs/Crimpers

You can make your own ANL fuse holder easily, with a small block of plastic two bolts and 4 nuts, I just now realized this and I wish I would of before I bought my fuse holder. If you want me to draw how you can make a holder I can do it, it may take me a while because I am still getting used to GIMP (image editor for Linux).

                  auto parts store
                  1 altenator 95 mustang 5.0
1-approx 20" cable switch to starter style
1- 150 amp circuit breaker or heavy duty fuse and holder that will accept 4 gauge wire
1-approx 48" cable switch to starter style
                  a couple wire connectors

this method abandons the old alt to batt wiring......why? cause the fusible links go bad in the harness, and ford changed the harness plug so many damm times that it's damm near impossible to find the right one.....those wires have served for 20 yrs, let em ride it out the rest of the way unpowered lol

If you do do the conversion, don't forget to splice the low oil indicator light wire that goes with the harness.
