    2 weekends and 3 people...

it could be done, but id do what i could while i could if ya know what i mean. since ur going from EFI to carb, u could prep for the fuel system change without the motor.

also pull the old now. out with the old and in with the new...

if the trans is still in the car u can do ya shifter now.

throttle/trans cables could be mocked but will require adjusting after final installation.

ignition system is pretty simple dont need the motor to install, but do need it for testing.

id install what i could on the motor with it on the stand. id pull the hood and the radiator to give me all the room possible. dont wanna scratch or dent any shiney stuff....

I believe its possible! use the force!

I think I will just get the long tubes on and get the shifter in for SF..that way I can enjoy the shifter and the sound of a tougher exhaust

I prolly will be able to get it on there this weekend...

and I guess with SF being soo far from me, not having the built motor in there is a good idea...
I'll get those big tires that Ivan gave me(235/75/15-thanks again ) on the turbines and bring a jack/tire iron for when I get to SF.
        I'd laugh if I get like 24mpg
I doubt it...but meh, anything can happen.

Don't rush it, when something goes wrong, you won't have time to come up with a proper solution in time. I've tried to rush things like this before, it always goes badly. Always factor in 'just in case' time.

Try not to hurry anything on this one. When we did my motor we were all so exited we thought we left a 3/8" ratchet in the lifter valley. Never found that damn thing, or my torque wrench (No, they weren't in the motor somewhere, LOL). Not a good idea to take a road trip just after a new motor build/install. If you were just plopping in a new longblock, no prob, but you're changing all kinds of stuff. Too many variables there. I was going to try to rush mine to make SF07 as well, but planned on trailering the car out there just in case.

Just had a bad mental image of the tow vehicle failing and having 10 drunk guys watching 5 even drunker guys installing a class III hitch on the Vic to tow the dead tow vehicle home. Wow, that's messed up.

As I said, start now with stuff that ain't gonna change - tranny shifter and headers, leave the ignition and fuel system for when the new engine starts approaching delivery time. Also if you start early you can take yer time later, and if you take yer time you ain't gonna have no problems - my truck never bothered me with nothing (well except carb issues), and I practically re-wired half the dash and engine bay, but I was taking my time double-checking everything.

Bottom line is start tomorrow and by time for road trip car will be ready and reliable. As for gas mileage - do not worry too much, torque-monster motors have easier time pulling the car, so they don't have to strain as much as a stock motor does, so you may just get about 20mpg.

Figure out how long you think it's gonna take and then multiply that by like four. It ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS takes longer than you think it will. ALWAYS.

                  I'd agree with that, Nate.

yea, I'm just going to get that shifter in there and install the headers...
                  hmm

how much do you guys think it will cost me to have those headers attached to the piping?
I'll put the headers on...all the shop needs to do is attach reducers and clamp the piping on.
I can't see it being any more than $100...would I be wrong?

Are you keeping the rest of the 2" system for now?

yea..for the time being...Turbo said it will be fine.
maybe next Spring I'll get it all torn off and replace it with 2.5" with an H pipe.
or sooner if funds allow it.

but after the motor is in and running well..then I'll save up to get the vinyl top replaced and then get a body shop to fix all the minor rust on it before it gets real bad.

If I were doing this build, i'd just leave the longtubes and shifter for when I dropped the engine in, do everything at once. Seems kinda pointless to me to put the headers on the motor you'll just be taking out soon anyways. But it's your car, go ahead and do what you want with it, just puttin in my

Why waste money on something you can do yerself? If they ain't welding something they ain't doing nothing you can't do on yer own in a matter of hour or two.

Take a few days off work and get it done right if you really want to have it ready so soon, wouldn't want to see all of your hard work go up in smoke over some simple thing that was over looked.
