    How longcould it take?

here's my situtation...I took a look at the calendar...if I get my motor back and essentially 1/2 assembled(meaning the bottom half is assembled) next weekend(July7th), then here's my problem:
that gives my uncle and I 2 weekends to get the motor assembled, cut the hole and mount the floor shifter in and drive the car to the exhaust shop and get the piping hooked up to those headers.

so, how long do you guys think it would take to do all of that?(everything except the exhaust work)
I will have 1-2 buddies helping me as well...
can it be done in 1 weekend?(ie: start on it on saturday morning and work until we're tired, then work on it Sunday the same way)
    will it take 2 weekends?
    3 weekends?

I have all the parts sitting around waiting to go in...its just a matter of getting it all togther and swapping it in.

and here's my other problem....what to do about the exhaust?
should I get the headers and shifter in this coming weekend(June 30th) and then get the piping hooked up...that way its less to do when I get the motor back...
or should I just wait on it?
btw, anyone know how much it will cost me to have the piping hooked up to the headers? (I'll be putting the headers on myself and then just driving it over there with open headers)
*note: the floor shifter has to be put in as the headers go in or else the headers will not fit*

it seems to me that if I dont get that motor back next weekend(July 7th) then it will not be built for SF...and I will just have long tube headers and the floor shifter in there.

Are you planning to drive it to the muffler shop with open headers?

yes..its not far...I did it before with my open shorties...
if needed, I can have my uncle tow it with his truck.

That's cutting it REALLY close on something that is gonna require a bunch of modifying, changes, and tuning.

Took me 6 hours to get my floor shifter in, that involved figuring out shifter's location, pulling seats out, pulling carper back, cutting floor, hammering floor, bolting up shifter (royal PITA if you're doing it alone), draining tranny fluid, dropping pan, swapping levers, putting tranny together, measuring up a linkage rod, fabbing up linkage rod, bolting up linkage rod, and adjusting linkage.

If you want I can have my car up at yer place one evening, you can try it for shifter locations and shit, then we can measure up stuff for the shifter and I'll help you put it in, since you ain't doing no fabbing shit and no cutting the floor we'll be done in couple of hours, so like before midnight really. We can do that even this week if you want, seeing how yer tranny stays the same and don't move anywhere when the new engine comes in.

I can do an SBC intake in about half an hour, bolting up heads is about the same time per side, and since it's a Ford you don't have to go adjusting lash and shit (unless you got shims). Putting a complete engine in I'd guestimate to one hour, took me 2 hours with my truck but I was alone and tranny didn't want to line up easy and motor mounts were pain in the ass too.

Don't worry about the open headers, I still have my 2.25" turndowns off my truck, they're about 1ft long and they will bolt up to yer headers as long as they got 3" collectors and 3-bolt flanges.

Oh yah, did I mention that shifter like yers requires no cutting of floorboard, just drilling four 3/8" holes for the mounting bolts and one 1/2-9/16" hole for the cable to pass through, right?

have you ever tried hitting the "quickly edit" button instead of making several posts?
I notice you do that a lot...not that its anything big, just thought I'd mention it.

That's just what they are expecting. If you don't push the "Quickly Edit" button, there is no way of walking straight into a deadly trap, is there?

Yeah, but what about your post count, that's what suffers most.

sounds tough dude, gotta factor in time for shaking the car down and finding problems... I guarantee you wont be able to just fire it up and go. Redoing your fuel system aint gonna be easy or quick by any means mang...do you have a carb mang, i forgot?
