hey mangs how do you refill the torque convertor mike was telling me just through the dip stick is that right also when draining the trans fluid from the trans how much fluid does it take iwas hearing like 12 qts is this right

about 12 quarts
heres the procedure for filling a empyt trans and convertor
put 6 qts in......start car
run for a few seconds, shut off
put 3 more quarts in
start car and run it thru the gears
check the fluid......nothing on the stick.....add another quart
repeat as needed till its full
12 quarts is about avg

nope, the TC is more like a bigass clutch between the engine and the tranny, there is a separate pump that supplies the pressure needed to clamp on the actual clutches and the OD band.Comment

WHat he said. The pump in the tranny takes care of moving the fluid around, just don't run it for very long after you first put fluid in or it will suck air. If it does that for too long, you can damage the transmission because it will starve for lube, same idea as running an engine out of oil. Once you get your 9 quarts or so in, it will have enough fluid that you can safely idle the car as you add fluid. Just add a quart at a time till its full. The amount of fluid between the 'add' and 'full' mark is 1/2 quart. Right about 12-12.5 quarts is normal.
