    MAP Sensor and running rich

I need a picture of the MAP sensor so I can find it. Or a good description would work I guess.

I think mine in the wagon is headed south. It will occasionally run filthy rich, even before it warms up or anything. It doesn't do it all the time, just here and there. Hasn't did it yet while the engine is warm. Any other items to check?

MAP in your car is attched to the top of the firewall, just behind the LR corner of the upper intake. Id check for vac leaks and replace the CTS

thats it. Check the vac hose to it. If its cracked or pinched, it will do the same thing.

also, for future reference, go to advanceautoparts.com or rockauto.com.
They have pictures of the parts, so they can at least show you what it looks like.

Thanks guys. I'll take a look at it this weekend when I get a chance. I'm not driving the car everyday so it's not a big problem yet. I've been tracing vacuum lines and hoses trying to find a leak and so far no luck. The ATC is screwy so there has to be one somewhere.

When I had no vacuum to the map, it was pouring out black smoke. Whoowee! What a horrible smell.

Its an 86. Thats the correct mounting for an 86 model. In 87 or 88 they flipped the MAP sideways.

I was getting some white smoke and it smelled like fuel.

I looked at the vacuum line going to the MAP today and it is kind of dry rotted. The vacuum line looked like it went under the manifold. I am going to have to pull the upper manifold off anyway when I replace the PVC and screen, so I'll get the vacuum line replaced then.

yeah the lines vanish into nowhere. Pull the upper and change all the lines while you're under there. They get all stretched and nasty from the heat down there.
