    Bolt size?

I am trying to remove the coil from the bracket on my 84... looks like the same size as the newer boxes... but I CANNOT find a socket that will seem to work... I have tried both metric and standard.... anyone know off hand what size the bolts are??? They are not rounded off, but nothing seems to grip it right... maybe i'm just missing a size on my socket set.... here is a pic of the four bolts I am talking about....

(Yes, the back gound is pink.. one of my ex wifes "beloved" pink towels she left when she moved out... been using it for car stuff ever since!!!!)

    It's a tiny little bastardo.

I think it's also a funny size. And if I am not mistake, the TFI module uses the same size socket!

5/32 does sound about right. I've removed them before, so I know it's not that hard to dig up the right socket, whatever it is. I'm glad my little 55-piece Craftsman standard/metric set goes that small, because I would never have thought to buy that small a socket separately!

What is with all those damn 13/32 bolts on these cars? Sometimes you can get away with using 3/8 or 10mm, but the 13/32 socket (if you have one) is just to hard to keep track of. Sorry, a bit of a rant, but it drives me crazy....

Not at all, I think we all get aggravated with the stupid bolt-head sizes Ford dug up to use on these things, and as you point out, it's not always about the mix of standard and metric fasteners. Not to mention some of the funky thread pitches that are impossible to match up.

As you guys stated....Ford really uses alot of ?/32 size screws and bolts. My girlfriend's '93 T-bird is even worse!

87lxcoupe, dig the wheel and tire combination. I ran nearly the same thing for a while.

Thanks! 235/60/15 front. 255/60/15 rear. Wheels are 15x8's. Only wheels I could afford at the time. I think the wheels were $40 a piece from Summit Racing!

Probably exactly the same combination as mine were, then (US Wheel 75 Series, I think?), except that I ran 255/60s on all four for simplicity. Pic above didn't work, so I'll see if this link does:

I finnally got the screws out tonight at work... sprayed some PB blaster on it... let it soak for a minute.. they busted right loose... That stuff is amazing! Also I found out why the socket wouldn't go down on the head of the screw... the countersunk hole in the coil isn't big enough to let the socket seat... I will be taking care of that tommorow with a slightly bigger drill bit... Guess when they made it, they screwed up when drilling the holes! Only socket that would go down in between the screw and the coil was a cheapo socket from one of those $5.00 socket sets we carry at work... I may have to buy one just for the extremely thin wall on the sockets! (Just for crazy things like this!)
