That's pretty messed up, all to save a fluid drain and pan drop (which really only involves running the car for several minutes with a tranny line disconnected, then like 5 minutes play with a screwdriver and a short socket)... Come on y'all, do it right, flip the lever and make the cable pull the bottom towards the front, it's the same as the rod pushing the top back or the cable pulling the top from behind, only you won't end up with a massive nasty loop taking precious space for the floor shifter likage

Actually draining the fluid would do nothing but waste money, the TV lever isn't removed from inside the tranny anyway. The gear selector lever comes out from the inside, but the TV lever is just a nut on the outside. The reason it attaches like that is because on a rod equipped car, there is no bracket for the cable to attach to. Its easy to attach the cable bracket to the pan bolts, its somewhat less easy to go fabbing a complicated bracket just so the cable sits the oppposite way. It really doesn't take up much room down there, and its a simple, yet effective solution. Personally I'd prefer a factory option but since there is none, I guess a Lokar is the next best option

It's not really that hard to figure out. They make directions. Follow them and you wont have a problem with the cable. Y'all are just making it more complicated than it is

Yah, I realized I got them confused, but I was too lazy to edit the post. Oh, and draining the fluid don't wast any money, as long as the bucket was clean

I have performed 8 Lokar kits. Some notes:

              1. They don't work with column-shift linkage. You have to install the kit backwards, and modify it to make it work.

              2. The carb linkage travel doesn't exactly match the opening curve needed for the throttle valve circuit; in other words, the throttle bracket end of the cable should be farther away from the carb linkage centerline (closer to the intake manifold). This flaw allows valve travel of only about 80%, so the valve either isn't opened all of the way (when you mash it), or adjusted the other way, or it never closes depending on adjustment.

After installing my kit, I assumed #2 was taken care of by installing the shorter TV lever on the side of the tranny?

Unless there is now an even shorter lever available, no. For the most part, the Lokar cable works just fine, it's the high-horsepower (400+) applications that might see a problem.
