If you converted to 134a you probably changed your hoses and filter dryer (which probably fixed a small leak resulting in better operation)

R12 is bad for the earths ozone layer but it has a larger molecular structure than 134a making it easier to contain within the system, also 16 ounces of R12 has the same “cooling” efficiency of 18 ounces of 134a or R22.

Best shit they ever made, glad I have a stockpile of it to continue charging my system, it's not illegal to own just to produce.

I recently finished my MACS certification for automotive A/C service at work, I learned a lot.
Actually the only thing I did was vacuum down the system and fill her up with 134a. And adjusted the low-pressure cut off. The R12 was still in there, but a stopped up orfice tube wouldn't allow the A/C to function. I have two 30 lb cylinders of R12 and several cases of the stuff, but I wasn't going to waste it considering I didn't know how long it would be before the nylon coating inside the compressor shaved some more and stopped it up again. Fortunatly, it's been almost a year and she's still blowing cold.
And your right, it has other problems that explains why it is so cold. It never cycles. Never freezes up either. High pressure side looks fine at all rpms, the low is just a little lower than the cycle switch liked before I adjusted it.

And FWIW, R12 isn't eating the ozone layer like the politicians want you to think. Air's average molar mass is about 29g/mol. R12's is about 121g/mol. In other words, it sinks to the ground and never gets up to the ozone layer. Volcanos put out much more crap than humans so, but I haven't yet seen one with a catalyic converter. Stupid EPA .

I'm actually to the point DUH DUH DUH where I might consider getting rid of my AC. Even though ti is still fully and very well, functioning.

if you had a sunroof, you'd probably be more convinced.

the sunroof was what made my decesion on the a/c delete. 5 windows is my climate control!

I've owned stuff without AC, and I don't miss it. My truck hasn't had working AC in years and that I plan to fix this year. I got spoiled driving the Towncar. So nice just sliding the lever over, cool air comes out, and no wind blowing in your ears to aggravate the tinnitus. My ears ring constantly, and if I drive around with the windows down, the ring gets far far worse, to the point that I have a hard time sleeping if I go for a drive with the windows down right before I go to bed.
