    Was this ever an option?

    I've never heard of it.

Possibly aftermarket? +1 On never hearing about a factory option for it.

I don't know of a larger one existing. However I can tell you from swapping out my '87 oil pan: there is very little room with the factory double hump pan. It is very tight down there around the cross-member. I doubt if one exists that would fit in a box panther imo.

An extra capacity foxbody pan might fit, depends on how sharp the corners of the rear sump are.

I've seen a larger pan on a Towncar, it was an aftermarket Foxbody part. Couldn't swear which pan it was offhand, Moroso 7 quart maybe? Its been done for sure.
