    Intake

Professional Products Power+Plus Typhoon dual plane

I didn't think before I bought this and make sure it's not too tall so I won't be able to close my hood with a carb and air cleaner on it. The height of this intake is 4.12". So did I fuck up or will it fit alright?

Anyway, all I need now is a carb plus the various other things to make it all work.

    Looks good!

Clearance won't be an issue if you're willing to experiment with a dropped air cleaner base and spacers. I had to do that on the Mercury because I needed a 1" carb spacer to clear the heater-hose tube thing and that put my 14"x3" flat-base air cleaner into the hood (it still closed, but it hit the air cleaner stud). With a dropped base and a short spacer it fits fine.

What kind of carb are you running? I like an Edelbrock 1404 or 1406, but there's a strong contingent in favor of Holleys as well.

I know I have to get the Lokar TV cable kit, but what about the throttle cable, will mine work with an Edelbrock, or will I have to get a Lokar kit for that too?

If I remember correctly, the Edelbrock carbs come new with a Ford-style post so you can snap the throttle cable right on. That might be the easier way to do it if you're willing to make an adapter for the cable bracket.

On the other hand, I think you'll need the little bracket that goes on a carb stud to mount the Lokar TV cable (Summit PN LOK-SRK-4000 or equivalent) anyway, and it makes the Lokar throttle cable a snap to hook up at the carburetor end. It worked great for my install on the Mercury; my only concern is how I'll connect the cruise-control unit when I get around to reinstalling it.

Come to think of it, the Lokar TV cable attaches directly to the lower large hole on the Edelbrock throttle lever, which I *think* is the same size as the one the stock TV cable grommet goes into. I think it should be possible to make or adapt a bracket to mount the factory throttle and TV cables and not use the Lokar stuff at all - AND not have to worry about the cruise control cable either.

ps. If your manifold is the same height or nearly the same height as an Edelbrock Performer and you don't run any factory heater-hose-tube doodads like I did on the Mercury, a flat-base 14x3" air cleaner should fit fine like it did on my Ford!

With my 351 (3" taller than a 302) and an air gap intake (7/8" taller than a Performer RPM, which is what that intake is a copy of)I could still close the hood with all the bracing and a 14" Moroso air cleaner

Go with lokar. You cant make the shit hook up right if not. Mine is ghetto rigged as hell. 2 barrels you can use stock stuff, 4 barrels you cant. Your throttle shaft is moved foward with the 4 barrel.

So is the stock throttle cable on the '79, but it wouldn't be if I'd taken the time to make a nice bracket and do it right. In my case, the ghetto-rigging is only a symptom of a combination of laziness, lack of creativity, and lack of confidence in my design and fabricating skills.

I actually want to do that to a CFI car. I think they have untapped potential.

You could run dual CFI units pretty easy with some fuel plumbing and wiring. Getting it run right.... hmmm don't go there.
