Passenger door only opens from the outside

Before I dig into the door, what should I expect? Passenger door won't open from the inside. But will open from the outside. First I thought it was those pesky power door lock actuators again due to their proneness to seize even when relatively new but seems like it shouldn't open from the outside either if that were the case.

Sounds like the inside handle is disconnected from the overall linkage.

+1 rod came loose. Probably one of those plastic retainer clips that goes on the end of the rod into the handle hole to keep the rod in place. I think most parts places keep a Dorman multipack of those things on the shelves. Dorman 75474

or the bushing crumbled enough that the rod is attached, but can't actually pull far enough.

pull the door panel off, the issue should be pretty obvious once you get an eyeball on it.

Took the door panel off and didn't notice anything wrong. And suddenly the door is opening fine from the inside now. Odd.

Originally, I was doing stuff in the car and my wife walked by and wanted me to get out. Couldn't get the door open. And she opened it from the outside letting me out. And we kept duplicating the situation and same result. A week goes buy and I pull the inside door panel off to look inside etc. and somehow it all works again. Go figure.

Ijust went through something similar on my Exploder. Ended up being a worn bushing, leading to snapping the plastic clip that attaches to the rod.
Might want to lube up all of that linkage

When I had put everything back together, I noticed when I roll the power windows down, it sounds like something scrapes. Can't remember the last time I rolled that window down. I thought maybe the screws were too far in and were scraping something but took the door panel and everything off and it still makes a lot of noise. So lubed the most obvious rod but still squeals and scrapes. Can't see anything in there that it is scraping against. So a little confused. Also, something fell out of my door while I was looking in there. It is a plastic piece that has the part number E5AB 5421978 AA on it. What is it? I assume it has nothing to do with the scraping noise but is it a necessary piece? The door still seems to operate and the window rolls up and down.

Appears to be a shield for the lock mechanism (door latch cover shield).

is the window guide rod bushing still intact? Its a square thing that pops into the piece that the window glass rivets to and is supposed to ride on that rod that runs top to bottom of the door. If the bushing falls apart the metal glass guide thing rubs on the guide bar and makes noises.

I found a picture online and it apparently is a plastic cover and fits over the door lock mechanism. I'll try and see if it snaps back in place when I get a chance.

I didn't notice anything but next time I have a chance to look, I'll check.

If the shield fell off and now it's scraping, i'd look into that?
seems like there might be a shield for a reason
